Omnisafe acted as a comprehensive off-the-shelf, but tailored, solution to Shell’s needs. It was compatible
with the existing system, and was able to be adapted to existing methods of reporting - minimising disruption
and staff re-training. No new modules were required.
The system works on two operational levels:
Safety: incident reporting on a permanent, real-time, 24/7 basis, including first-aid cases, safety or
environmental related incidents and medical treatment cases. It is also used as an onboard unsafe act
and condition reporting tool.
Quality: regular reporting tool for all types of ship inspections, (SIRE, PSC, ISM audits and superintendent visits)
with action points fed into the system, to generate future prevention policy, and comprehensive reporting
for detailed trend analysis.
There are two levels of management involved in this vital process:
1. On board for day-to-day reporting of unsafe acts and conditions that have not resulted in a safetyrelated
incident.
2. Head Office management receive reports of incidents that have resulted in a safety or environmental incident, such as injuries, pollution, near misses, security incidents and medical treatment cases.
