UKAEA
Client |
United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, Oxfordshire, UK |
Background |
The UKAEA group is a world leader both in decommissioning and regenerating nuclear sites and in developing fusion as a sustainable, secure and carbon-free energy source. With decades of experience as pioneers in these fields, UKAEA is making a key contribution to meeting the twin challenges of sustainable development and climate change. |
Key Objectives For Omnicom |
Comprehensive reporting system required with both flexibility to be tailored to specific requirements and able to fit with the constraints of larger ERP systems. 70 main users across UK, but circa 1500 users have access via Vendor Reporting. |
Timescale |
The initial contract was placed in September 2002 and Go Live was achieved by the set date of 1 April 2003. The product was rolled out across all of UKAEA’s six UK sites stretching from Winfrith in Dorset to Dounreay in the north of Scotland. |
Operational Solution |
The main modules used are Contracts, Suppliers (fed from our ERP system SAP), Manpower (used to record Hired in Staff and Consultants), Strategies, Document creation, Reporting (including Web based reporting for advertising our Contract Opportunities), Contract Variations and Tendering information. The benefit of using OmniCom is having the dual advantage of an off-the-shelf and inexpensive product, together with the flexibility to tailor the product to our specific requirements, meaning that we can use the flexibility of OmniCom to fit with the restraints of the larger ERP systems. This ensures that we drive the software rather than the software driving us. This flexibility is demonstrated in the reporting area, whereby UKAEA uses a separate database for its Contract Opportunity adverts. The adverts were created in the database and then sent to a web designer for updating UKAEA’s website on a weekly basis. The process took just over a day to complete. OmniCom was then developed by adding a new tab to capture the information. The reporting functionality allows for html reports to be generated which, once checked, are then directly added to the web pages. This process takes 15 – 30 minutes, and has saved us nearly a day per week. For the future
